GEOS 128 REU Autoboot Mysteries Unraveled
In this post, I will discuss how to get Samsung FRP tools for PC.
These tools function beautifully in the FRP lock subject, and each of the
tools listed below has unique capabilities and the capacity to overcome
the FRP lock. So, to reset FRP, download FRP Unlock tool and follow our easy steps.

How can the Commodore 128 boot into GEOS without a cartridge or disk? Patreon: Channel …

I had a 128D with a 1570 REU running GEOS128 2.0, geoWrite 128, geoCalc 128, geoBase, and geoPublish. My wife did all her college papers in geoWrite. I did budgeting in geoCalc. I taught myself databases in geoBase. I put out a family newsletter in geoPublishā¦ It truly was a great operating system.
lol my brain thinks that's a weird looking Atari ST.
Thanks I didn't know much about GEOS but would love to use it. When you were booting and it shows garbage first, My first thought was that it just had the wrong start address and often the machine finally randomly makes it's way to the correct code and starts working.
As you have device manager, try using that with a REU preloaded with GEOS128. DM should detect the rboot code in the reu, and add a GEOS ram boot option to its boot menu.
I see no attribution for the end-song, so, I'd guess… suno?
Is there any copy perfection schemes going on?
Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
How does your BASIC program know where to put memory dumps from these binary files saved from the System Monitor, when you specify only a memory bank, but not the address? I would assume that commands should look like this:
10 BLOAD "1C000",B1,P49152
20 BLOAD "1FFF5",B1,P65525
30 BLOAD "03E4",B0,P996
What happens if you save the memory contents of a real CBM REU to a disk, power down, power back up, reload the contents of the REU using the memory dump file you just created, and then run rboot? My hunch is that you're going to see the same graphical glitching at first while rboot reloads the c128's main memory and re-initializes the display.
C128 machines were the best, nice design with dual cpu
wow and zamzam water
I have MIB 128 with matching 1571. Makes me want to get it out and do more than Zaxxon with it. Kudos!!
Wow. I have a 128, and a 128D, never tried GEOS on there only ever used C64 version. Will need some sort of modern REU implementation I guess.
Cool. Super interesting. I wonder if the fact that the U2+ REU emulation is not 100% compatible has something to do with it? If you run Maverick Goodies REU Tester with the U2+ REU installed it will fail and say there is a problem with the REU. Perhaps this is a bug and it needs an option or 2 to tweak the REU and settings for edge cases?
31:00 The John Diliberto? If so, that's one hell of an endorsement/patronage!
Love the episode-long nod to Robin! Thanks for such a detailed and well-thought-out video!
I profoundly dislike the 128 because it could have been something great if Commodore would have made it a C64 v2 (In the spirit of what the C65 later was) and not a 128 computer with a C64 built in. Commodore was very lost in the woods after the C64 and IMHO never recovered, and they did the same thing to the Amiga years later.
Great video! How come when you cold boot, I see JiffyDOS copyright, but when you hit reset button – no JiffyDOS?
Yup, I learned the hard way about the 128's banking scheme… a few months ago as a learning exercise I made a B&W image viewer for the 80 column mode (and conversion program in Python), and first had to load the image into system RAM, then transfer it to the 128's video RAM. I kept wondering why part of my pictures would get corrupted until I figured out I had to use the MMU configuration register to swap out BASIC.
It almost looks as if something is getting loaded into video RAM at 27:53 because you can see it writing line by line to the screen… possibly it's setting up stuff for the 8563 display chip (maybe for the desktop) until finally it kicks into the bit-mapped display…? It looks initially like it's in character mode because you can see the various blocks making up the screen and the 8563's character attributes like blinking, colors, etc. It would probably require a dive into the various GEOS programming books to see how its system works.
Awesome video! I've often warned people away from the GEOS 128 option rom as it takes away boot drive configuration and kernal mod possibilities. This solution, if successful, would fix those problems. Of course, if anyone ever recreates the CMD RL, then we could cold boot GEOS in seconds also, but until then, this is very very promising.
Wow… 8-Bit Show and Tell done to perfection!
nice computer, cool video.
This was cool Matt, thanks.
BEST CLOSING SONG EVER
Yes, some 128 love! Would love to see the 64 version too!
REU kidding me?
wow, you have a commodore 128 signed by Bil Herd. You are so lucky. Thanks a lot. ā¤
I got my first C128 in 1989, ya young whipper-snapper. ;D
